BOSCO SPORTS NETWORK (BSN) WHO ARE WE?
The Background and
History
Bosco
Sports Network (BSN) is a Project that aims at coordinating and animating
sports activities in the grass roots level as well as in the learning
institutions. We have been motivated and inspired by St. Don Bosco who
dedicated his entire life for the welfare of children and youth especially those
who are poor and needy.
Objectives
is to contribute in human development by transforming the lives of poor
children and youth of Africa by engaging them into useful sports activities, hence
“Changing and improving their Lives
through Sports”. We work at convincing both governments and private sectors
that sports is a necessity and a basic right for both children and adults
rather than a leisure or a pass time activities.
·
Provide opportunities for social co-existence across
the communities with a focus on religious and social tolerance.
·
Promotion of positive values
·
Promoting healthier living
·
Enhance sport’s skills and administration
·
To convince the governments and private sectors to
promote sports for all.
BSN has a board of six members who meets
occasionally to plan and evaluate the programs in order to make sure that the
project is going towards achieving its goals and objectives. The following are
names of the board members.

BSN has a team of technical managements in
all the sports. The choice of these managers falls under the criteria of
knowledge, experience, reliability and positive moral standards. In all the
sports we have one appointed manager who in turn appoints several assistance to
help him /her carrying his/her training plans
We believe it takes a team to win a game.
That’s why we work together with grass roots sport’s centers, private and governmental
Sectors. Our partnership is directed towards project enhancements for smooth
running of the programs. Moreover, it is
a win – win approach whereby BSN becomes a platform where our partners through
their partnering with us can advertise their business and so forth.
We help to unleash the power of sports in
the Local and Regional level and to demonstrate its ability to transform the
life of children and youth in the areas of health, employments, recreation and
community integration.
The
project targets youth workers, teachers and NGO working with the young African
who are not in education, employment or training and equip them with the skills
they need to build new paths towards sustainable livelihood. Through the
combination of non-formal education, sport based youth work and employability
training, the program offers an innovative approach to Africa’s most pressing
social challenge. We team up with other NGO’S and Religious institutions to
make sure this goal is achieved. Through sports we have been able identify
hundreds of youth in “Jua Kali” industry who receive VETA certificates after
shorts courses of confirmation.
We
create occasions in which young people come together to celebrate each other.
This helps to create bond of unity and the spirit of togetherness. These occasions are such as picnics, movies,
swimming as well as family visits.
Events are the best way to attract any
audience and raise awareness for any cause. Our events directed to children and
youth alike. Sometimes we give sports seminars to sports administrators so as
to increase their capacity on sports arena.

It is difficult to find good facilities
for sports. Most of open spaces where kids and youth used to play before have
been grabbed by private developers. Due to this we encourage our coordinators to
be creative to find safer places for children and youth respectively. Meanwhile we are dialoging with local governments
to allow us make use of schools playgrounds as well as to allocate for us a free spaces safe for sports activities to
take place.
BSN brings together individuals
with the mind of sports and who desire to see children and youth from different
background get the opportunity to enjoy sports. As such we are working closely
with several streets sports centers in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Iringa, Dodoma,
and Nairobi. (Kenya). Networking helps us to create a “sports family where we
live, learn and play together. This enforces our capability and increase our
capacity to reach to a bigger group of children and youth in Tanzania and East
Africa in general. The following are the street sports centers that form BSN
Network.
